First pigs born on the farm
Since we started with pigs last year, we've bought in young, just weaned, pigs and reared them to fattening stage. We've kept some of the gilts (the maiden sows) and we bought Henry, our middle white boar, just before Christmas. When the gilts were big enough, we introduced them to Henry, who charmed them into his pig harem. (Guess why he's called Henry? I'll give you a clue; he's fat, light ginger and only interested in one thing.)
The two Berkshire sows, sisters Anne and Mary (!), were looking fairly big and Anne farrowed nine pink and black piglets overnight. You'll be glad to know we haven't named the babies! Mary should be farrowing soon too, so they'll be piglets to see on our first open day on 13th April.

23rd January

New flavour sausages and dinner party cuts launched
You know we sell our traditionally reared beef, lamb and pork in the new Back to Nature Farm Shop, but we have now sourced local chickens at a reasonable price too. Whole chickens as well as breast fillets, stuffed or unstuffed, are available. And have you tried our cooked meats? We are selling our homemade 'Shabden honey roast ham' and salt beef cold by the slice.
Using the locally sourced chickens, we have developed two new flavour chipolatas; Chicken, sage & onion and Chicken & lemongrass. These chicken sausages are great with salads, in a sandwich, or grilled and chopped up into a pasta dish.
Also new this week are Beef, tomato & onion bangers which are ideal for hot dogs as well as with gravy and mash.

Happy New Year to all our customers, friends and neighbours.

Thank you for all the great feedback from your Christmas orders of geese, turkeys, and joints of meat. Here are some of your lovely comments;

"..the gravy made with the roast mutton was sooooo good. Such a deep full flavour. We are complete converts. Thank you so much." Nancy

"The goose was fantastic! Thanks to all who grew him/her." Lauren

"..we thought the meat was great and will continue to order from you (we are NZers and used to tender meat which the supermarkets here don't seem to have but yours is great)." Lynda

"Congratulations on your new shop. This is going to be a real local asset for Chipstead. Very impressed on our visit today." Keith & Jackie

"We haven't bought goose in this country for around 15 years but yours was as good as the French ones!" Pascale & Steve

We opened our new farm butchers shop on 1st December and had a great day with our butcher Martyn and Kirstie serving meat and complimentary glasses of mulled wine to our first day's customers, and Mark and Tomasz showing the animals and talking to people about how they are reared etc. For more about the shop click here, and we will also post updates on this news page.
