Free range Hens

Starting out with just a few chickens for our own egg supply, it seemed a natural progression to sell eggs alongside our Back to Nature lamb, pork and beef.
Read more about how we rear our poultry.

Our current hens are a traditional, commercial laying breed called Amberlink, and are kept in free range conditions. This means they naturally produce a high number of eggs but that they have plenty of room (about three acres) in which to scratch around, run and behave naturally.
You can see our flock of free range hens for yourself as you come down the entrance drive to the farmyard and farm shop. The Amberlink breed is well known for their roaming abilities, as shop customers have probably seen for themselves!
The hens lay a good-sized brown egg with a rich yellow yolk.

We sell our eggs in the Back to Nature Farm Shop.

Christmas Goose

Shabden Park Farm rears traditional, free range, farm fresh goose for Christmas.
The geese are reared from day old chicks in June and have an area of around two and a half acres to range. We rear a slowly matured goose with no additives or growth promoters, producing a meat which is tender and full of flavour. There is also more meat on a goose than you might imagine, as can be seen from this photo, given to us by some of our friends and customers!

The oven ready goose will weigh between 5 and 7kg (9-15lbs approx.) and are priced at (£11.50/kg - 2009 price to be confirmed). A deposit is required to secure your goose, and the balance will be charged when the bird is collected.
We begin taking orders for geese around October.

Christmas Turkey

Shabden Park Farm rears Norfolk-breed free-range, grass-reared turkey for Christmas orders, both traditional white and bronze birds.
The turkey poults are reared from about four weeks old and are able to roam around the grass fields once full size. Our turkeys reach maturity naturally then start to fatten, we do not give them growth promoters or any other additives. This produces a richer tasting meat.
We also sell boned and rolled turkey breast joints for smaller families or no-mess carving.

An oven-ready turkey will range from 5kg (9lbs) right up to 11kg (24lbs approx.) and are priced at (£9.50/kg - 2009 price to be confirmed). We always ask you how many people you expect to feed when you order, so that we can choose a bird to suit. A deposit is required to secure your turkey, and the balance will be charged when the bird is collected.
We begin taking orders for turkeys around October.
