The concept of Farmers' Markets is not a new one and farmers have sold their produce locally as far back in history as agriculture itself.

In recent times there has been a large impact on these traditional ways of selling and buying food by the growth of convenience shopping, supermarkets and cheap imports, and this has resulted in a change in emphasis away from locally produced food.

However, we are in the midst of a food revolution, with more people becoming aware of where their food comes from and how it has been produced, harvested, transported and stored.

A farmers' market is one in which farmers, growers or producers from the local area sell their own produce, in person, direct to the public. Their main emphasis is to help local farmers to sell their produce direct to the public and local to its origin, creating benefits to them, the environment and the local community.
Shoppers at farmers' markets like being able to talk directly to the farmer or grower who has raised the produce they are buying and we always try to spare a few minutes to explain our farming methods to interested customers. We are also on hand to offer cooking advice and encourage our customers to share their recipes with us and fellow shoppers.

We employ traditional farming methods at Shabden Park Farm, and so we sell our meat in a traditional manner at markets, butchering to your specifications and selling the meat loose by weight. This means you can choose your own joints and chops, and you can see exactly what you are buying. It also means you can buy the exact amount of sausages you need.

We often have mutton for sale at our farmers' markets and sell this loose also.
